Born in North Carolina (which then added his initials to the state flag in commemoration), raised in Arizona, and now residing in Brooklyn, Nat has been performing as an actor for over twenty years. Since moving to NYC in 2004, he has been in over 30 productions, and has been seen onstage at venues such as 59E59, Lincoln Center, The Cherry Lane, MTC's Dodger Studios, The Public, SoHo Playhouse, Theatre Row, P.S. 122, Manhattan Theatre Source, The Gallery Players, 45th Street Theatre, and many others.
As a playwright, Nat's works have received productions, readings, and workshops throughout New York City, including venues such as Theatre Row, The Gallery Players, and Manhattan Theatre Source. His plays include Any Day Now (a 3-act kitchen-sink family drama set during the first few months of the zombie apocalypse), The Reckoning of Kit & Little Boots (a metaphysical buddy-comedy about the lives of Christopher Marlowe and Caligula), The Eternal Husband (a noir-styled adaptation of Dostoevsky's novella), The Collector (a new stage adaptation of John Fowles' seminal suspense novel), and others.
In 2009, his plays were up for a combined total of FIVE New York Innovative Theatre Awards: Outstanding Production (Kit & Little Boots, The Gallery Players and Engine37), Outstanding Full-Length Script (Kit & Little Boots), Outstanding Director (Nat Cassidy, Any Day Now), Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role (Elyse Mirto, Any Day Now), and Outstanding Actor in a Lead Role (David Ian Lee, Kit & Little Boots). By the end of the awards ceremony, Nat's script for The Reckoning of Kit & Little Boots and his lead actress in Any Day Now, Elyse Mirto, both took home awards for respective oustandingness. Both plays are now published and available for purchase. Check the "Current" page on this site for direct links.
As frontman to Nat Cassidy & the Nines, he has written and recorded two albums (Pet Symmetry and Everybody Here Says Hi! both available for purchase and download from GFS Productions) and is currently at work on the band's third, a double-album entitled Words of Whiskey. He has performed with and without the Nines at venues such as the Knitting Factory, Pete's Candy Store, Arlene's Grocery, Mo Pitkin's, Galapagos, and others.
